Saludos! My name is Gloria Ceron and I am the Spanish teacher here at East Rockford Middle School. This year promises to be very exciting because of the different activities that I have programmed to introduce my students not only in the Spanish language but in the Spanish culture. I am committed to providing an educational experience focused on the needs of each student.
I came from South America in 2009 and I got my teaching degree in Spanish and Special Education at Saginaw Valley State University. Since I was already Speech Therapist in my origin country Colombia, earning a teacher certification fulfilled in many ways my professional expectations.
I Strongly believe in parental involvement as a valuable resource to raise student’s achievements, so I hope we will be constantly in contact.
Technology in the Classroom
The majority of the students find multimedia programs more fun and exciting than traditional texts. Students enjoyed authentic videos because they liked seeing what students from other countries look like. This direct connection to teens from the Spanish-speaking world is an invaluable resource and serves to make learning the language more “real” for students.
Internet-based tasks can also be exciting to students if they are sufficiently interactive, thus allowing students to make their own meaning from the information at hand. Online activities and resources can stimulate students to brainstorm and subsequently reorganize their ideas with relative ease, this activities help to develop critical-thinking processes.
East Rockford Middle School counts with advanced technological resources which make learning fun and interesting for students. You will be gladly surprised on how proficient your children can be in a foreign language.
